The following questions are aimed at getting a better idea of your situation so that I might be able to advise you of any changes you might need to make before introducing a puppy to your household.

12. Are you aware that the breed is short lived? 6 to 8 years is average

13. Have you thought about the size of vehicle needed to carry the dog?

14. Do you have a pool and if so is it fenced off?

15. Are you aware that Irish Wolfhound puppies like to dig holes……BIG ones!

16. Irish Wolfhound’s like to chase as they are a hunting breed, before allowing the dog to run off lead it must be taught to respond to a recall signal.

17. If your circumstances changed and you were no longer able to care for the dog would you agree to return it to me (free of charge)?

19. Whoever you buy your puppy from I would strongly recommend taking out veterinary health insurance.

20. The breed does have some health problems which include heart disease, cancer, epilepsy and liver shunt. Most breeders do their best to breed healthy hounds but sometimes the unexpected happens and the dog gets sick, if it is cancer then the dog will most likely die. All reputable breeders carry out blood tests at around 8 weeks to ensure that the puppy doesn’t have liver shunt and have parents heart checked but there are no tests for puppies to check the other problems. These are just issues which you need to be aware of.

21. If you want to go on my waiting list would you be prepared for me to do a home check? This would involve me or a delegate visiting you in your home at a mutually convenient time.

22. Where do you plan to keep the dog... inside or out?

24. Do you plan to take the puppy to puppy school for training and after 6 months of age to basic obedience classes?
